What is Gospel?

As society advances, there’s an undeniable shift in values, with many drifting away from the foundational truths of scripture. Under the guise of modern liberalism, some feel hesitant to identify as Bible-based Christians, leading to what can only be described as a Christ less Christianity in our world today.
At the heart of Christianity lies the Gospel of Jesus Christ—a cornerstone of our faith. But what is the Gospel, and why is it so crucial?

The Essence of the Gospel

The Gospel, derived from the Greek word ‘Evangelion’ (meaning “Good News”), is not merely a feel-good message or motivational speech. It is the divine announcement of salvation, rooted in the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ.
Paul describes it succinctly in Romans 1:1-4, calling himself a bond-servant of Christ and emphasizing that the Gospel belongs to God and concerns His Son, Jesus. This declaration reminds us that the Gospel is not about us—it is entirely about Him.
God, the owner of the Gospel, holds His preachers and teachers accountable for how they handle this sacred message. Many may claim to know the Gospel, but fewer truly understand its depth.

What the Gospel is Not

It’s essential to distinguish between what the Gospel is and what it is not: -It is not simply that God loves you and has a wonderful plan for your life. -It is not that God has a perfect purpose for you. -It is not your personal testimony or relationship with Jesus (though important, these are not the Gospel itself).
To understand the value of the Good News, we must first confront the bad news: man’s fall into sin. The story of Adam and Eve reminds us of the curse brought about by sin and its devastating effects on every generation. Yet, even in our darkest moment, God gave a promise—a prophecy of redemption.
Isaiah foretold the coming of a Savior, a Prince of Peace who would establish justice and righteousness. This promise was fulfilled in Jesus Christ, as declared in Matthew 1:20-21, where the angel announces to Joseph that Jesus would save His people from their sins.

The Heart of the Gospel

The Gospel centers on Jesus—His life, His sacrifice on the cross, His resurrection, and His promise to return. It is through Him that the curse of sin is broken and men is offered redemption.
Jesus Himself emphasized this truth, saying, “Without me, you can do nothing” (John 15:5). He must be at the center of our lives, families, churches, and daily decisions. Anything less than complete devotion misses the mark of true discipleship.

Guarding yourself in an Age of Deception by Holding Scriptures

The Bible warns of false teachers and diluted messages that stray from the truth. Paul cautions in Galatians 1:8 that even if an angel from heaven preaches a different Gospel, they are under God’s curse.
In today’s age of digital transformation, deception has become more sophisticated. With deep-fake technology and misinformation, it is increasingly possible to spread
falsehoods—even against church leaders. This is why believers must ground themselves in scripture, ensuring they are not swayed by every wind of doctrine.

A Call to Vigilance

We live in a time when sound doctrine is often replaced with teachings that cater to personal desires. Scripture warns in 2 Timothy 4:3-4 that people will surround themselves with teachers who tell them what they want to hear, turning away from the truth to embrace myths.
The only way to recognize false teachings is to know the true GOSPEL, which is revealed ONLY IN THE BIBLE. Ignorance of scripture is no excuse; believers have unprecedented access to God’s Word today.

Perseverance in Faith

Living righteously often brings hardship, persecution, and trials. However, Jesus promised His peace and joy to those who truly seek Him. These challenges remind us that we are still in the flesh and not yet fully with the Lord.
The Christian life is not free from difficulties, but it is filled with the hope of eternal joy. Our Lord assures us to “be of good cheer,” for He has overcome the world. Soon we will meet Him face to face.

Final Exhortation

The Gospel is not ours to modify or dilute; it is God’s message, centered entirely on Jesus Christ. We must handle it faithfully, proclaim it boldly, and live it out wholeheartedly. As we navigate a world filled with distractions and deceptions, let us cling to the truth of God’s Word, remaining vigilant and steadfast in our faith.
In the end, the Gospel is not about us—it is all about Him. Let us give Him our full devotion, glory and honor, for without Him, we can do nothing.

Spread the love
